Carrie Prejean To Speak In Simi Valley

From The Ventura County Star

Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who has become a lighting rod in the debate over same-sex marriage, will deliver a speech in Simi Valley in August, according to a political group sponsoring her appearance.

Prejean, 22, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the convention of the Young Republican Federation of California.

Prejean made headlines when, during the Miss USA competition, she answered gossip blogger Perez Hilton’s question about gay marriage by saying wedding vows should be reserved for men and women. Prejean finished as first runner-up in the contest, but later lost her Miss California title.

“She’s a new face in the conservative movement,” said Danielle White, 24, a member of Ventura County Young Republicans, who are hosting the convention this year. “We think she’ll get everyone energized. She’s relatable. She’s one of us.”

California Is Experiencing Dust Bowl In Reverse

George Runner

By Senator George Runner

Democrat Leaders who do not believe Californians are fleeing the Golden State in droves need to look no farther than Sacramento, the seat of California’s state government.  A recent Sacramento Bee article cites a reverse migration to the Mid-west. This marks a stunning reversal of the historical trend of migration into California—especially during the Dust Bowl that sent hundreds of thousands of Midwesterners west toward the Golden State.

During the Dust Bowl, people left states like Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma because a drought left the once fertile soil barren and bone-dry. The livelihoods of the farmers shriveled with the crops, and families found themselves in destitution. They sought the greener pastures of California.  But where the Dust Bowl of the Great Depression sent a massive migration of Midwesterners to California, the current economic hardship is now driving residents back to the Midwest.

Democrats Excessively Regulate Los Angeles Exposition Park

noreen-evans

From The Policy Report.

As the leaders of the Democratic and Republican Party continue to negotiate to close the now $26 billion gap in the California State Budget — or as Democrat Assembly Leader Karen Bass refuses to go to meetings and play the blame game instead — it becomes more and more apparent that Democrats have no interest in responsible government.  The most recent example is there insistence that even though they are looking to save $26 billion dollars and have cut back $2.8 million in funding to Los Angeles’ Exposition Park’s operating budget, they continue to fund a $2 million expansion to the park.

Exposition Park is a collection of publicly owned lands, including the LA Colosseum, California Science Center and the California African American Museum.  Prior to the recent budget problems in the State, the park received a $2.8 million in a fund called the Exposition Park Improvement Fund in order to maintain its operations.  It also had obtained another $2 million to expand the California Science Center.

Noreen Evans and “Meaningless” Principles

jon-coupal

From The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association

By Jon Coupal, The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association

Several years ago, the last time California was “going off a cliff,” I wrote a column entitled “Taxpayer Ants and Government Grasshoppers.” It was based on the wonderful old Disney cartoon about industrious ants working hard and putting away provisions for the future and a lazy grasshopper which refused to do the same.

Those familiar with the story will recall that when winter came, and the grasshopper faced death from starvation and exposure, the ants took pity and bailed him out with hot food and a warm place to sleep. The grasshopper then repented his ways and changed his tune to: “I owe the world a living. I’ve been a fool the whole year long. Now I’m singing a different song. You were right and I was wrong.”
